about this garden
An instrument disguised as a website
Fourteen bioluminescent organisms grow in an indigo field, each tuned to a note of a
pentatonic scale climbing two octaves from A2. Touch one and it sings — a pure synthesized
voice, two softly detuned oscillators breathing through a filter, no samples anywhere —
and the ground answers, carrying a ripple colored by its pitch.
Play two notes together and watch the waves meet: where crests align the field flares
white-hot; where phases oppose they cancel back to dark. Harmony, drawn as physics.
Playing
Touch or click an organism to sound it.
Drag across the field to strum.
Keys 1–0, Q W E R play the fourteen voices.
Scale retunes the garden between pentatonic and dorian.
Drone hums the root of the field beneath everything.
Loop records the timing of your touches and repeats them.
Leave the garden alone for twenty seconds and it begins to dream — a generative
sequence of weighted chances, mostly stepwise, occasionally harmonized, always gentle.
Touch anything to join back in.
